Mphil Meteorology and Climate Science
As a result of KNUST-GMet collaboration that led to the establishment of the BSc Meteorology and Climate Science Programme in 2008, the MPhil (Meteorology and Climate Science) programme was introduced in 2011/2012 academic year to provide postgraduate training to the BSc (Meteorology and Climate Science) graduates and other qualified candidates.
The MPhil in Meteorology and Climate Science programme comprises seventeen (17) courses in total. Fifteen (15) of these courses are taught as core courses and the remaining two (2) as elective courses. Each student in the program takes lectures and examination in at least one (1) of the elective course. The programme has graduated students since 2013 and has developed into PhD programmes.
Aims:
The aim for the establishment of the MPhil degree in Meteorology and Climate Science was to build human capacity by training to produce skilled postgraduates with world class standard qualities.
Objectives:
The objectives were to train students to acquire skills in the following areas:
-
Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry
-
Meteorology skills in weather and seasonal forecasting
-
Climate science (physical climate processes of tropical Africa and the world at large)
-
Satellite and ground based remote sensing methodologies and applications
-
Atmospheric and terrestrial pollution issues
-
Atmospheric, ocean, land and vegetation modelling
